Great Britain’s Charlotte Bankes has suffered a broken collarbone, ending her hopes of winning a third snowboard cross World Cup title in four years.

Bankes, 29, was injured in training on Friday, ruling her out of the weekend’s final races of the season at Mont Sainte Anne, Canada.

It meant 19-year-old Lea Casta of France was able to take the Crystal Globe for the overall World Cup winner after victory in Saturday’s penultimate round put her clear of Brookes at the top of the standings.

“Gutted and frustrated to finish the season like this,” Bankes said in an Instagram post.

“But now the focus is on getting the body mended, recovering and coming back stronger next year for a big one [Winter Olympics]. Thanks for everyone’s support this season.”

Bankes won the Crystal Globe in the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons.
