Why food recalls are increasing
E.Coli, metal and even a dead bat have been found in recalled food. In fact, food recalls are increasing. Yet, that might actually be a good sign. Here’s why.

Trader Joe’s is recalling lots of some of the water it sells across the country due to safety concerns, the grocery chain announced this week.
The environmentally-friendly store, which specializes in gourmet foods, initiated a voluntary recall Tuesday after it learned from its supplier that several lots of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Natural Mineral Water may potentially crack or break.
“The issue was identified by research related to bottle breakage during production and potentially affects 1% of bottles,” the company wrote in an online news release.
The recall affects tens of thousands of bottled water at stores in 12 states, Trader Joe’s said.
Here’s more about the recall:

The recall impacts about 61,500 bottles of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Natural Mineral Water sold from December 2024 to January 2025 at Trader Joe’s stores in 12 states, according to the CPSC.

What to do if you have recalled bottles of water
Customers should “immediately stop” using the recalled bottles, the CPSC said. Bottles from the affected lots can be returned to the stores where they were purchased for a full refund. Consumers will not be asked for proof of purchase, but will need to return the recalled bottle to receive a refund, the CPSC said.
