A Gerber product marketed for babies and toddlers has been recalled and discontinued after choking complaints, according to Nestle USA.

All batches of the Gerber Soothe ‘N’ Chew Teething Sticks were recalled “due to a potential choking hazard for babies and young children” after use resulted in one ER visit and multiple complaints of choking, according to a press release Friday from Nestle USA, the parent company of Gerber.

“We sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience this action represents to parents, caregivers and retail customers,” the company said.

Nestle said it is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the recall and will “cooperate with them fully.”

The teething stick was meant for babies and young children and was marketed as an “edible teether.”

Gerber Soothe ‘n’ Chew Teething Sticks: What was recalled?

The following products were recalled, according to Nestle:

  • Gerber Soothe ‘n’ Chew Teething Sticks Strawberry Apple– 3.2 oz., UPC 0 15000 04618 7; all lot codes
  • Gerber Soothe ‘n’ Chew Teething Sticks Banana– 3.2 oz., UPC 0 15000 04608 8; all lot codes
  • Gerber Soothe ‘n’ Chew Teething Sticks Banana– 1.59 oz., UPC 0 15000 01015 7; all lot codes

Where were the Gerber teething sticks distributed?

The products were distributed online and through distribution centers and retail stores nationwide, including in Puerto Rico, according to Nestle.

The recalled products were not distributed in the following states, according to the press release:

  • Alaska
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • West Virginia
  • Wyoming

Do not feed the product to children.

If you have the product, you can return it to the retailer from which it was purchased, according to Nestle.
